But Lilly was born totally healthy, at 19 months of age I noticed that she had some puffy eyes and I took her to the doctor. By the time we got there her eyes weren't puffy anymore. But he explained to me some possibilities of what it could be. He said "puffy eyes can sometimes mean renal failure." I thought yeah right she is too healthy....Well we checked her urine and sure enough it was full of protein. The kidney doctors hoped it would clear up with some steroids, but she only got worse. We had our first hospital stay Dec 5, 2005. She was in the hospital for 27 days the first time. They did a kidney biopsy and diagnosed her with focal segmental glomular sclerosis (FSGS). She progressively got worse from there, and the doctors anticipated that she would need a new kidney in about 6 months. We were in and out of the hospital almost on a daily basis. We then moved our camp trailer to Portland and stayed in the parking lot there, as we lived 3 1/2 hours away and it was just easier. During this time Lilly went through tons of testing, infusions, blood transfusions.... we stayed up there for 5 months and she ended up having to get dialysis. This only lasted about 3 weeks and she started doing better. Once we were able to go back home we had to travel to Eugene 45 miles away everyday for her daily infusion. Almost 4 years later.. she is still needing a kidney transplant, but she has been holding her own. Her kidney's are progressively getting worse and she is moving to the top of the list now we are just waiting for a few immunizations that she needs and a match. We are planning on a deceased donor but a living donor has better outcomes usually. Her blood type is A Positive. Thank you so much for helping us and our baby. I will send pics asap. Thanks, again christie
